Felipe Massa :-(

Postby MadameConcorde on Sun Jul 26, 2009 8:54 am

Ferrari team driver Felipe Massa suffered a bad crash yesterday at the Hungarian Grand Prix during qualifyings.

His visor got hit by a spare part that came of his countryman's Rubens Barichello's car.

He is in the hospital after head surgery. His condition is said to be critical yet "stable".

We will most probably never see Felipe Massa on the race tracks again.

I hope he will recover as best and as quickly as his condition permits. :(

:( while it is sad that the accident happened certainly everyone is glad and grateful that he is okay and is in stable condition :D !! Truly racing is indeed a dangerous sport and it's easy to forget that especially since these drivers are the best and they make a tough job seem easy.

*Massa has been in a serious but stable condition at the AEK military hospital in Budapest.

But he has now taken his first steps around the bed and continues to make progress, sparking hopes that he may be able to return to F1 racing.

His team said: "Felipe speaks, can sit upright and was even able to take his first steps.

"Today he will leave intensive care.

"From the clinical and radiological point of view everything is going extremely well

*Michael Schumacher will make a shock return to Formula 1 to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.

The seven-time world champion retired at the end of 2006 but will drive at the European Grand Prix on 23 August.

Ferrari said the 40-year-old will stand in for as long as Massa is sidelined by the serious head injuries he sustained in the Hungarian Grand Prix last week.

*FELIPE MASSA left hospital today just nine days after his near-fatal accident — and said he wanted to be back in Formula One "as soon as possible".
The Ferrari star, 28, was taken from Budapest's AEK military hospital to the city's airport in an ambulance.

But he was able to board a private jet without help before heading home to Sao Paulo with pregnant wife Raffaela and his personal doctor Dino
Altmann.

*Massa still has no recollection of the incident that nearly killed him during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

He was travelling at 162mph when he was struck on the helmet just above his left eye by a suspension spring that fell off compatriot Rubens Barrichello's Brawn, before ploughing into a tyre barrier.

NAsty looking stiches on his face. he is lucky to be alive, much less walking and talking.
