i had lunch with a male friend of mine last week, he's one of my best friends...i'd hate to think what people would make of photos of us...big hug and kiss, he's the brother i never wanted  but to people without a clue....who knows, who cares, our spouses didn't! but in this case i hope eloise knew about it...otherwise :!: this wife would be mad :!:

bbb I can tell you what the gossips will say... Didn't her Mother do this to her best friend when she "stole" Ernst. As you said he's just a friend but she has left herself wide open for gossip of the worst sort. She needs to be careful about this kind of stuff.

that was my first thought too hibou, but if it wasn't innocent they wouldn't have been in public (you wouldn't think)

lord harry's family home Birkhill, i'm not finding much in my search, seems the lord has kept a low profile and his name and photos out of any articles. (clapclapclap)

http://www.ltr.co.uk/properties/scotland/birkhill

it can be rented
*Birkhill - 12 bedroom Castle, near St Andrews
Sleeps 22
60 minutes from Edinburgh airport
10 double or twin bedrooms, 2 singles and 11 bathrooms
Heated swimming pool and private beach
20 minutes from St Andrews
Croquet lawn and tennis court

*Birkhill lies on the shores of the River Tay estuary in Fife. It is the home of the Earl and Countess of Dundee. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens and during the summer months guests can enjoy the heated swimming pool, tennis court and private beach. Birkhill is primarily a family home and offers a warm welcome to all that cross its front door.

http://www.birkhillcastle.org.uk/castle.html
(great photos!!!!!)

*Birkhill lies on the shores of the River Tay estuary in Fife. It is the home of the Earl and Countess of Dundee and their four children. They run the Birkhill Estate and Lord Dundee works in the House of Lords, where he is an elected Peer. He is also Hereditary Royal Banner Bearer for Scotland. His forbear was awarded this office by the Scottish King Alexander II in the 13th Century and his predecessors carried the Scottish Banner for William Wallace at Stirling Bridge and Robert Bruce at Bannockburn. Bruce appointed the Banner Bearer and his successors as custodians of the City of Dundee. In 1780 the family built the present mansion house of Birkhill.

I vote innocent. It's already nice the young man is married, I say chuck it up to friendliness. Carolines friend was not 23 when she hooked up with Ernst. He probably had strayed and they were probably living separate lives after their children when the match with Caroline was made. Look at Carl Habsburg, he and his wife only kept up appearances anymore when they divorced. I don't see Caroline or Charlotte as homewrecker.

:D Truly more than likely it was indeed just a good friend lunch! Just because she's single and he's married they would try to put a spin to it and why not? it sells well. However, Even two single people having lunch with that level of friendliness would not constitute a relationship in the making or in any level of progress. If we could all count the number of close friendsships which exhibit that kind of friendliness not part of one's marriage, we would all say we have all been there. So, it's really difficult to view it as anything more than good friendsship. Truly, it too is hard to see Caroline as a home wrecker. More than likely the marriage had long disintegrated before they had become an item regardless of appearances. :D

I completely agree, I think they are making a big deal out of nothing. I've had lunch or dinner with friend's boyfriends or husbands, your usually good friends of both of them.

I think you're right about Caroline too and the fact that people can become become good friends with someone's spouse and if they become a supportive friend like Ernst did to Caroline when she needed one and his own relationship was over I can understand how a new kind of relationship might happen between them. But, it's also the reason I say putting a liitle space between relationships is a good thing, at least publicly, it might have made the difference in what people had to say about Caroline and Ernst. :)

somebody take a picture......we're all agreeing at the same time on the same wave length about everything.....sigh that was nice

quick somebody say something nasty, we don't want to be confused with a sugah board ROFL

as a rule i don't think it's cool to marry/date a friends ex-anything (page 14 in the friendship handbook). boyfriend, husband, lover...anything, ever at any time (even years later). if you value the friendship you just can't do it... NOW if you value the friendship of the man more....go for it but in my experience there's hard feelings (even if she says she doesn't care...trust me found out the hard way on this). years ago way before hubby, i had a best friend that lived with another best friend for years, YEARS i considered them married. long story short, she has an affair, divorces him and leaves him crushed.

i tried to remain neutral, but we were friends, he was crushed and needed me alot more than she did, we hung out and years later lovers, ( he's still a friend, hubby knows him) you would not believe the hostility and anger she stills feels toward ME! i joke about thank gawd i picked him and not her, she's a fruitcake (needless to say she's had 3 or 4 husbands in the 30 years) but pain is pain, i'm sorry if i've contributed to hers in any way, i would think caroline feels the same. people are gonna talk no matter what you do, so you might as well do what you what makes you happiest.

*there's a BIG difference between a friend and an aquaintance "friend". a friendship is a bond demanding loyalty, the other.......alls fair in love and war

Triple B, my longtime friend hooked up with an ex of mine in Hollywood. She had married an actor on the heels of my affair but she just had to try to nab him too. I know what you're saying; there's plenty of fish why head where it's too close for anybody's comfort? I made that point to my ex but he was sore at me and plunged head first even more. Of course, their affair didn't last. She hasn't remarried and my ex married someone else. Therein lies the difference, Caroline & Ernst have a good marriage together. I don't think Charlotte is making a play for the young lord at all. Her mother was broken when Ernst pieced her back together. Charlotte is whole, and can make free choices. Personally, I don't go near men that have been with any of my girlfriends. I don't like grapevines and oversharing. And yeah, Charlotte should snub the Stick!

charlotte is in Portugal for a horse show. a confused google translate I think it says she didn't make the 2nd round but Athina came in the top 3 and moves on.

you may be right and they do like her but i have my doubts. when you're with people you like, there is usually animated conversation, happy smiles and interaction. just judging the pics it seems a cool, polite relationship. if they were friends shouldn't there be pics shopping, or lunching or hanging out? i don't have many good pics with my friends because in all of them, we're laughing hard, talking or acting silly with our mouths open (getting that last word in ;) )

Actually, the competitive horse crowd don't have time much to shop. You might catch a rare glimmer of laughter and fun, but most of them at that level of competition take it quite seriously. Hanging out at the competition depends on what their other schedules are, and most end up hanging with their barn team. Charlotte has just one horse. Athina and her huband have serveral. Even though Athina has a team of helpers, you will find most of these competitors prefer to take care, as much as possible, their own horses. Even Princess Anne in her riding days was known to muck stalls, as does her daughter Zara. I'm not making excuses, I think they are friendly with each other but not close friends. I think this friendship is just beginning to warm up again.

I should add that for Charlotte this is a fun hobby, but for Athina it is a way of life. Zara Phillips is not seen partying and shopping much, but you do see her at Official events because of her position, and sometimes at sports events involving her boyfriend.

poor charlotte looks dispirited and upset. lots of pics of athina.

my point on the shopping and hanging out is we haven't seen any ZIP not on vacation (perfect time for a stroll of the shops) no girly bonding moments with heads together with the giggles, nothing but polite ....distain, not rude but not warm.
come to think of it, i haven't seen any casual pics of tweets in any photos with friends of any sort, shopping, lunching, nada, usually she's flanked by albies flunkies or strangers . if this "happy family" cruise was meant to send a message, i didn't get any positive vibes JMO

Charlotte should be very proud. Athina does this year round and has never taken a sabbatical. It's all good, Charlotte.

As per WC, I don't see the deep deep bond of sisterhood there.

Charlotte was eliminated today in the tour of Champions in Portugal. Elimination is for only two reason, 3 refusals or fall of rider. The report said she hurt her back after her horse stopped at a fence. So my guess is she fell off and probably landed on the jump which can hurt. Between the wrist and now the back she needs to go home and rest for a while.

She was jumping at 1.25M which is about 4ft 1" She's been having problems at that height.

I just found out an interesting piece of trivia. Athina bought a horse here two years ago for 2.5 million, Picolien Zeldenrust, for her husband. The family here said about parting with the horse that it was like "having your dog die and win the lottery on the same day". The horse was originally bought for the family's daughter.

2007 Article

I don't know but Orangeville is a great place to breed horses. I am extending an invitation to Charlotte to come to Toronto, and for me to be her guide. :P

That figure is not surprising for a "made" horse that can go at the Grand Prix heights. It's true in the US too where many horses are purchased by syndicates.

Even at my daughter's level you have people buying horses in the six figures so their little darlings can win. The truth is you can find a really good horse for a kid without mortgaging the house if you know where to look. My daughter's horse was a former steeplechaser who won at Belmont and Saratoga in his "baby" years. Retrained I've had people comment to our coach that he's the perfect Jr. horse. Two Olympic riders commented also and wondered where we found him. Truthfully, I bought him, not for his ability, but because she loves him dearly. The statement about the dog is true too. Our nickname for him is the big dog.
